Mission Week: June 5-9, 2023

mission

Monday begins our first Mission Week for our church and community! We have a story to tell! What is the story? In the book of Matthew, Jesus gives His disciples the commandment to go and make disciples of all nations. We know the story! God has invited us to be a part of His work in this world. One way to do this is through our community.

This week, many events are planned that you can participate in. Choose the ones that work best with your schedule, but choose something! Come share a meal each evening with a devotional time following. Meals begin at 5:30 p.m. and a short lay-led worship time at 6:00 p.m.

On Friday, we wrap up our week with a hamburger cook-out at Dan and Debbie Selz’s. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of fellowship out by the pool.

A Church-wide Event!

June 5-9, 2023

Mission Week, ’A Story to Tell,’ is upon us!

Many in your church family have been working hard to make this happen. Mission Week is for all of us. What is planned is an entire week of activities and missions that each of us can do at some point and time. There will be opportunities for young and old!

Each day of that week, there will be activities planned that you can participate in as you can. Each evening (Monday to Thursday), we will have a dinner at church at 5:30 p.m. and a lay-led short worship at 6:00 p.m On Friday, our end-of-week celebration will be at Dan and Debbie Selz’s home at 6:00 p.m.

Some of the planned activities include helping families at several home projects; Nursing Home visits-singing and playing Bingo; writing cards to our Homebound and others; a tour of the Child’s Advocacy Center; making cookies and granola to take to our first responders; painting and light construction needs at Wise Choices, Pantry Express on Thursday; putting together chairs for the women’s shelter; contributing to the women’s shelter with toiletries and towels; working anytime during that week at Hope Chest; and walking the immediate neighborhood to place flyers on doors that will advertise Kids Camp.

What is Mission Week?

Mission week is a time to come together to serve God and our community to the best of our ability.

Our mission statement at First Methodist Bridgeport is to Love God, Share God.

This statement is a two-fold approach:

1) Love God. We do this by coming together as a congregation to give our thanksgiving and praise continually to God.

2) Share God. This is where our mission comes in, we share the love we receive and pour that back into the community where it is needed.

It is time, God is calling First Methodist Bridgeport to go forth as Christ has called us to.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20
