Through the Bolted Door, The Porous Heart

Through the pain of the Cross, from out of the tomb with its’ broken death, he meets loved ones in a garden, on streets in Jerusalem, and on the road to the town called Emmaus. He enters through a bolted door into a room filled with questioning, confused, and frightened friends.

Anywhere and everywhere, Jesus comes to those whose hearts are penetrable. Jesus enters, sometimes like a breeze soft on the cheek, gently turning our attention away from harm and to the comfort of his presence. For others, he is the storm that shatters the old walls guarding our souls, freeing us to live a life God has designed for us, one filled and nurtured by his Spirit.

For each of us, the time has come to unbolt the door and let him in, to trust fully and go where we are led.

Unlock and open the door, pray, and open the book. Pour the wine, break the bread, dine together, and share the voice of the Wind.

Listen to the Spirit, listen to the Word.

Expect to be surprised and even made anxious.

Expect to be challenged, to be called to strange places.

Expect to be comforted and to be one who brings comfort.

Expect to learn, some new, some forgotten. It is the wisdom encountered and then hidden away by layers of life and preference.

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and reburied; then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.” Matthew 13:44-46.

Join us Sunday and let’s walk to Emmaus together, open the scriptures, and sit at the Lord’s Table together.

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!
