Reverse Advent Calendar for the Food Pantry

Family Advent Activity

As we anticipate the celebration of Christ’s arrival in our world, some families use an Advent calendar. Each day reveals a small item or perhaps a devotional centered around this season.

Financial needs cause worry and for many, feeding their family is of great concern. Our church has had a nonperishable pantry for many years that helps ease this burden every month. We serve an average of 72 families each month.

Because those needs have continually increased, keeping our food pantry stocked has also become more difficult. Instead of receiving something each day, the Reverse Advent Calendar allows your family to put a needed pantry food item in the box. A box will be made available to you if you choose to participate. The box can be returned to the church on Christmas Eve or anytime after.

Family Devotion

Read Luke 10:25-37.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to stop and remember there are those who are hurting and in need. Everyone needs hope at Christmas. Let us not get so caught up in the busyness of the season that we lose our focus. In Christ’s name, Amen.
