October is Stewardship Month

stewardship

October is stewardship month at First Methodist Church Bridgeport. Stewardship is both a practical and spiritual act for everyone. It is a time when we prayerfully consider our financial commitment to our church. In our nation, the church is not supported by the government, which leaves us free to worship and believe based on our walk with God and not beholding to any government whims.

The other part of our national freedom is that we have to pay our own way. From the brick and mortar of the building and the staff to keeping the electricity and gas on, it is up to each and every one of us. All of the missions our church partakes in depend on funding for both the mission as well as the staff and infrastructure of the church.

Spiritually, stewardship is found throughout the entirety of the Bible. It is one way we give back to God for all the good and grace we have received. It is a form of faith, for we must trust in the Lord to make good use of our hard-earned money. In stewardship, we acknowledge that God is more important than the money we give. Each Sunday, we will hear someone in our congregation explain what the church means to them and why they feel it is important to give.

Thank you and God bless,
Pastor Rick
