From the Pastor’s Pen: September 2014

Pastor Sam

Sam CaldwellWe all like to be known by name. One of the easiest
ways to endear yourself to someone is remember their
name. Your name means a lot and it is pleasant to hear
it or see it in lights. Usually if you walk up to a person
and introduce yourself by name they will respond
with offering their own name. This is why we wear
our name tags in church.

You may think your name tag is not needed because
“everybody knows you”. As true as that might be, the
name tag still says your are open to new folks and that
you want to know them and be known by them. So
even if most people really do know you, wearing the
name tag still makes a statement! Our guests have a
much better experience of welcome if we learn their
names and they see that we want to be known.

As a congregation, our summer worship attendance has been scattered with many
different faces each Sunday. You were thoughtful to wear your name tags my first couple
of Sundays and then many of you stopped wearing them! But I invite you to wear them every
Sunday. Your face and your name are important to God and to me as your pastor! And to
our guests!

Now that Fall has arrived and school has started, I invite you to make worship a part of
your weekly routine – every week! Your presence matters and your name matters. Bring
them both to worship!

(If your name tag has been lost we can make you a new one! Email the church office or call 940-683-2780)

See you Sunday!
Sam
