A Word from Rick: March 11, 2022

notes on the Bible

Dear Church Family,

From somewhere in my childhood, I remember being told to “stop, look, and listen” before crossing a street. A good bit of wisdom for a kid growing up in the Metroplex. Actually, it’s good advice for a lot of areas in life. Do we do this in our relationship with God? Or do we read a bit of scripture we like and say, “that’s it, I know it, I’m done,” then go about our busy day? Is our life with God worth the time it takes to worship, pray and as the Psalmist wrote, “delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night” Psalm 1:2? Or “I will meditate on all your work, and muse on your mighty deeds” Psalm 77:12.

This week, our Bible Study looked at the study of God’s revelation through scripture, the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, and listening to the Holy Spirit within us and one another. All of these are gifts, grace to be a little more precise. We don’t earn God’s revelation or the understanding of this Divine self-revealing. But we are wise to humbly read, seek, and search. And ask questions! How are we ever going to learn or understand what has been given to us if we don’t ask questions?

Join us Sunday as we consider the practice of studying the scriptures and asking questions as we stop, look, and listen, for the Holy Spirit to guide us and teach us.

May the Grace and Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

Pastor Rick
