The Mountain, the Valley, and the LIGHT

“Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.” (Luke 9:32)

Left speechless? We all know the phrase, “that left me speechless!” A person may say this when they are surprised, or encounter something that leaves them completely without words to describe what they see or hear. Of course, there is the other response. We find ourselves surprised or without a way to describe the event, so we just start talking. Saying the first thing that comes to mind. I think I’ve responded both ways.

Apparently the three of the disciples had such a moment with Jesus. Actually, it’s hard to imagine there were not a lot more such moments! From Luke 9:32-33, we read: “Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, ’Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah’ — not knowing what he said.” Frankly, I understand Peter’s response as well as the others silence. What happens in front of the disciples is the type of event to leave you speechless, without words, but talking anyway.

Join us this Sunday as we explore a most remarkable and beautiful event, the Transfiguration. Hopefully, I won’t be totally speechless or talking without knowing what I said. I do have a few ideas. After all the subject is Jesus! And there is always something worth hearing about our Lord.

May the Grace and Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with You!
