notes on the Bible

For the Love of Our Nation

We all want the best for our children and grandchildren in this life and the life to come. We want our family, friends, and communities to inherit a stronger unified nation, and a stronger Christian church. A church that will speak to our hearts, guiding and healing the people of the nation, the world, working in the ways of Christ Jesus. As a church we are called to stand in the middle of life, with only the ideology of God. And God has told us what is desired and even expected of the people.

“He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

Jesus repeated this way of life in his teachings and his everyday life and ministry. We are not Jesus, but we are expected to show him to the world. The people of Christ’s church are empowered by the Spirit to do great acts of love and mercy. This is where we find God’s Hope for our nation and humanity. Not in the angry rhetoric that dominates the national conversation. We do not find Christ in memes of self-righteousness, even when we hide our feelings under the name of Jesus. Anger has a way of making itself known. Insults and sarcasm never led anyone to Jesus and such speech will not unite our people. The Book of James reminds us of the power of language, comparing it to the spark that sets an entire forest ablaze. Our walk with God requires justice, kindness, and humility. This is often a challenge my friends. Our Christian contribution to our beloved nation is not arrogant or vengeful but reflects the love of God in Christ.

Frankly, it is not easy. But what more could we give our people, our family, our loved ones, than a legacy of justice, kindness, and humility with God?

What more than the love of God in Christ Jesus?

Have a happy and safe 4th!!

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!
