Rick’s Writing: July 25, 2025

It seems we use the word intimate to describe relationships between people. Often, the conversation is describing the physical or romantic relationship between people. But the word is richer than that. To be intimate can describe being close, near, or how near or dear someone is to us. We can even use it to describe our knowledge about a person or object.
Have you ever thought about being intimate with God? As with a lot of our thinking about the Lord, we may find we have to switch gears when we move from human-to-human relations to that of one with the Almighty. But how different is it?
One of the great and unique joys of Jesus is the Incarnation, that he is fully human and fully God. God has intimate and personal knowledge of what it is to be human. How we feel love, anger, pleasure, and joy. Even how it feels to laugh or cry. Yes, God is the Holy One, set apart and different than everything or person, but also intimately understands what it is to be human. That’s a lot to ponder in and of itself. But what about yourself and God?
With prayer and the Holy Spirit, in us and with us, we are allowed into a very close relationship with the Creator. This Sunday, we will look at that intimacy and the gift of prayer. Please join us as we consider the remarkable gift of intimacy God has given to humanity.
May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
