MCC Clergy Day Apart Report

This past week, our church hosted the 2026 Methodist Collegiate Church Clergy Day Apart. Twenty-five pastors from places like Houston, Waco, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Grapevine, Southlake, and (of course) Bridgeport gathered for a time of learning, prayer, and fellowship.

I had a blast. And I’m so proud of our church for hosting this event. After Bible Study on Monday, several folks helped set up tables and chairs. A family in our church hosted one of the pastors in their home with a place to spend the night. Another family made a back porch available for evening conversations and catching up. Thank you!

This event was truly a reminder of the power of being a connectional church. We are NOT alone. I witnessed a ton of cross-pollination of ideas and problem-solving — and thankfully, I was on the receiving end of some of that! I shared that I would like to have a way to collect church members’ testimonies, but that I don’t have any ideas for how to do that… and WHAM! There it was! A colleague from another church had just developed some instructions on how to do this! 

Our time of learning together was focused on the importance of church hospitality. We had a “Masters” theme, so everything was golf this and golf that… down to the pimento cheese sandwiches wrapped in green cellophane. We talked about the ideas in a book by John Sabino, The Augusta Principles: Timeless Business Lessons from the World’s Premier Golf Club. I’ll be digging into this book for a while!

I could go on at length, but I want to keep this short and to the point: God is at work in these pastors and these churches. It was so encouraging to sit and listen about the move of the Holy Spirit that is steadily building up momentum in our MCC churches.
