The Veil is Thinner Out There

Yesterday, I needed to sense the presence of God.

So I did what I often do when my soul feels crowded: I went outside. I sat on the back porch, looked at the sky, listened to the birds, felt the air, and remembered that God is not far away.

For me, the veil feels thinner out there.

Of course, God is present everywhere. He is just as near in the hospital room, the office, the kitchen, the classroom, and the sanctuary. But there is something about creation that helps my heart pay attention. The world God made has a way of preaching without words.

Psalm 19 says, “The heavens are telling the glory of God.” Sometimes the trees, the clouds, the breeze, and the quiet remind us what our anxious minds forget: We are held by a Creator who is good, near, and faithful.

Maybe this week, you need a little holy noticing too. Step outside. Take a breath. Look up. Listen closely.

The veil may be thinner than you think.
